Reasons to record data with star charts
The most common reason to use a star chart is to incentivise the children to want to poo/wee in a toilet.
However, at Ones and Twos Occupational Therapy, star charts are primarily used to record the data of each and every single poo/wee - regardless of whether it is in the toilet or somewhere else as incontinence. This is critical to monitor and measure the success and progress of the child on a weekly basis.
The critical information to record is always the size and the consistency of every single poo or soil, as well as the timing of these events.
The use of laxatives is essential for behavioural reasons when going through treatment at Ones and Twos Occupational Therapy. The charts and records will be reviewed every week at the time of each appointment. So the more organised that parents and carers can be about recording the data, the more accurate I can be in providing you with better advice and guidance during a very challenging period.
